Overview

Cafe Basilico Trattoria, nestled in the heart of Davao City's SK Complex along J.P. Laurel Avenue, stands as a genuine representation of Italian culinary tradition. This trattoria offers an inviting escape for lovers of wood-fired pizzas and hearty Italian fare, set against a simple yet elegant ambiance that caters well to both casual diners and those seeking a relaxed date night.

The star attraction here is undoubtedly their pizza, crafted in a wood oven that imparts the thin, slightly chewy crust so characteristic of authentic Italian pies. Whether it’s the classic pepperoni or the more complex capricciosa, these pizzas have won praise for their flavor balance and satisfying texture. Complementing the pies is a diverse selection of pastas and mains like the bacon steak and Marsala chicken, each delivering robust, layered tastes that showcase the kitchen’s dedication to traditional Italian flavors with a local touch.

Service at Cafe Basilico Trattoria receives mixed yet generally positive remarks. Guests appreciate the attentive and polite staff, noting their readiness without being intrusive. Online reservations receive swift confirmations, underscoring a respect for customer time and convenience. However, some patrons have experienced occasional lapses in service warmth and timing of dish arrivals, hinting at areas where operational flow could be refined for a smoother dining rhythm.

The dining space itself is marked by dim lighting and a romantic vibe, which serves well for intimate evenings though it can become quite loud during busy periods, potentially hampering conversation. Parking can prove challenging due to limited space, so planning ahead is advised. This environment suits small groups or couples more than large, boisterous gatherings.

Cafe Basilico’s appeal lies in its generous portions and affordability, making it a practical choice for those seeking quality Italian without pretension. While pasta dishes may lean toward the pricier side and occasionally miss that ideal al dente bite, the overall experience is rewarding. The kitchen’s capacity to capture authentic flavors combined with a welcoming atmosphere fosters a dining option worth exploring repeatedly.

Ideal for food enthusiasts who appreciate genuine Italian cooking crafted with care and a touch of local flair, Cafe Basilico Trattoria enriches Davao City's culinary scene with its wood-fired pizzas, carefully prepared mains, and attentive service. It is a place that balances tradition and comfort, inviting diners to savor Italy’s heart in the Philippines.

Food photos from my friend. The only good thing I can say about this place is maybe the service. I reserved via messenger and I received confirmation almost immediately. The servers are attentive, you don’t have to flag them to refill your water. Well paid 6% service charge. I’m not a fan of Italian cuisine (my friends chose) but good food is good food and there was nothing notable. What we ordered: • Pizza (pepperoni and capricciosa) • Pasta tartufo • Marsala chicken • Grilled seabass • House fries • Quinoa salad The place was also loud that it was difficult to talk and hear what the other people in your own table were saying. This was the most uncomfortable experience I had with this dinner. Will not come back.

A very nice restaurant w great wood oven pizza. The pastas were a bit pricey but good for sharing. Chicken tenders were really big and can easily feed a couple of children. Overal a very nice restaurant

Excellent food for price value. Customer service was intermittently okay (not very friendly). Otherwise, everything was really good. Will continue supporting them on food panda, I guess

Great food and really generous servings — you definitely get your money’s worth. Every dish we tried was flavorful and satisfying. The waiters were attentive without being intrusive, always ready when we needed something. The place has dim lighting and a lovely romantic ambiance, perfect for a relaxed dinner or a special date night. Parking is always full though, so it’s best to come a bit early or be prepared to wait. Still, definitely worth the visit and we’d happily come back again.

As I usually do, I came here with zero expectations. I'm glad to say that I was delighted in the end, four stars notwithstanding. Let's start with service as it always is something just as important, if not more so, than the food. The staff were polite, friendly, and attentive. All good traits to have. However, as is typical for restaurants, they'll only tell you something is not available after you have attempted to order it. That being said, it was just the one item so I can let it slide. Other than that, they were on point. As for the food, we ended up ordering quite a good amount, not knowing that each dish is practically meant to be shared. No harm, no foul; we can always take the rest home. The pizza was surprisingly good: thin and slightly chewy as genuine Italian pizza should be. I had the leftovers for my lunch today, it's surprisingly good cold. Don't judge. The bacon steak was astonishing. I've made my own homemade bacon before, but Basilico's recipe is, undoubtedly, perfectly balanced in terms of saltiness and sweetness, then cooked to greatness. I admit, though, that "balanced seasoning" is a subjective matter. The flavor immediately propagates across one's tongue. A bit tough, but expected from a cured piece of meat. Dab a slice of it in their hot honey, and it just makes you feel things. The pasta, I will have to agree with other reviewers in that it was a bit overcooked. I always expect a bit of resistance with each bite but, unfortunately, my teeth easily bit through the spaghetti. I could probably "bite" through it by squashing it between my tongue and the roof of my mouth. The amatriciana sauce was quite flavorful, but it is a sauce that is difficult to get wrong. The food is unequivocally enjoyable but Cafe Basilico's kitchen suffers from a common problem seen in many restaurants: it will start all items in a table's order simultaneously which results in certain dishes arriving at different times as opposed to ending all dishes together. Lastly, the atmosphere. The decor is simple yet elegant but because of its own simplicity, it does nothing to dampen excess noise should there be any rowdy customers. All in all, while restaurant-wide processes can be improved, I would definitely come back. (We began eating the bacon steak before I snagged a picture.)

Toril branch over a year ago and now, here. Tables were set up for groups. Pricey, shareable servings definitely not for solo dining. Popped in for takeaway. Quinoa Insalata, Arrabbiata Pasta, Quattro Rosso Pizza, and Chicken Cotoletta. All four were delicious. It helps if staff know how to properly pronounce the names on the menu. Nevertheless, I won’t hesitate coming back.

One of the best Italian restaurants I've been to! you will feel like you're eating the food right from Italy. We went to the branch just steps away from Aeon Towers. Visiting from Cebu and if we lived here I would be eating here probably 5 days out of the week. Excellent service, the atmosphere is very pleasant, background music soothing, and the aircon isn't freezing, very nice temperature.

Food is good for 2-3 people so you can just split it with your lover or friends. Don’t be intimidated by the menu, try to ask the staff for their recommendations. There’s no signal inside though. The atmosphere is nice and service is fine. Would I come back? Yes!
